The month-long multilingual translation project has come to an end: All your company’s web assets are now translated into a variety of languages, among which French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

One of your employees, a senior director with international exposure, happens to be fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. He is eager to review the new websites’ content, which he does enthusiastically. When comparing the two versions, however, he realizes something: Although both language versions are inherently correct, it seems evident the two websites have been developed separately from each other. Your employee believes it would have been better if the word choices had been more closely aligned, for two languages with such a high degree of vocabulary proximity. He feels that, in the absence of this, the brand message the translations reflect is inconsistent across the geographically adjacent Brazilian and Argentinean markets.

What your company’s internationalization project is lacking is referred to as “cross-language integrity & consistency of message.”

This specialized service is typically recommended for those companies who mean to go beyond mere localization of content and present a coherent, perfectly coordinated multilingual presence, with the same perceived feel and corporate message.

At Modern Languages, we are in a privileged position to offer cross-language concordance as built in into our service offering – a considerable added-value proposition.

Modern Languages founder Axel Van Goud, North America’s foremost hyperpolyglot has lived and traveled extensively in most European and South American countries, while also holding professional certifications in such Asian languages as Urdu.

It is thanks to this uniqueness of skill set of our workforce as well as our twelve years of multilingual translation/language services experience that Modern Languages offers such a specialized, high-skill service as cross-language integrity.

Modern Languages – a leader in the North American language services industry, always stays current with all the latest language trends, while leveraging the latest technological advances in the internationalization industry.

Welcome to the world of internationalization! You are a company that has seen tremendous growth over the last decade: your sales have risen and your markets have expanded beyond the United States and Canada into new territories.

As your client base is increasing and diversifying, so to will you need to create and maintain a presence in the newly-acquired markets. To do so, you must internationalize your brand. The process of internationalization is a lengthy one which entails such important steps as translating your product information and website into the respective local languages.

Modern Languages is your ideal partner for taking on the world in its native language: Whereas most other language service providers recruit a number of translators in various languages, seeking to then generate business by well-managed marketing campaigns and appealing websites, Modern Languages stands out from the competition both in its operating principles & business philosophy.

Founded in Toronto, Canada by internationally renowned hyperpolyglot Axel Van Goud, Modern Languages has applied the most selective criteria possible in recruiting its partners, having chosen only the top percentile of the top linguists North America-wide as a result of over 18 years of experience in language services.

Indeed, to qualify for joining Modern Languages as a staff linguist, translators must meet such criteria as:

  • possess a Master’s Degree or higher education level in translation/linguistics
  • demonstrate over ten years of direct experience in the language and specialty they are to work in
  • master a third, possibly even a fourth language at native- or native-like level. This serves to further increase the quality of their work, thanks to wider linguistic exposure, superior capacities for analysis & synthesis and broader horizons.

When taking on an internationalization project of scale or otherwise, customers will automatically benefit from Axel’s trained eye and experience in recommending the fastest, most efficient and cost-effective way of carrying out the project in question: This typically leads to considerable time and financial savings, with an end product that registers a near 100% match in original content meaning and spirit, across all multilanguage versions.

For all those organizations who produce high volumes of content which needs to be internationalized on a frequent basis, machine-assisted translation is an obvious choice, both for its significantly higher output capacity as well as the considerable reduction in cost that it is likely to bring about.

A translation-memory data base is likely the most common form of machine-assisted translation technology. This customized software is programmed to import any source file required for translation. It then automatically searches through a repository which contains all the organization’s past translated content, suggesting the highest matching “strings” in descending order of match percentage. A human agent must then review every suggested matching string, and either accept, reject or modify the suggested translation as they see fit. In case of an absence of past matches from the database, the Translation

Memory software returns the source language string untranslated. This ideal, high-yield technical solution to increasing throughput and reducing cost does, however, require in-house expert language personnel to review, edit as well as translate original content.

Modern Languages has partnered with Memsource to deliver the most comprehensive, cloud-based technologically up-to-date Translation Memory solutions. Whether you are a large hospital or the municipal government in a large multicultural city, a Public Affairs Bureau or a multinational with spokespersons and a local media presence, it is imperative that the language level of your employees interacting with the public be up to your organization’s high professional standards.

Should the prospective or current employee successfully pass the language proficiency test, you may rest assured he or she will represent your company at a comparable level of fluency and ease as in English.

Modern Languages has a long history of involvement with standardized language testing: Its founder, Axel Van Goud is Canada’s leading hyperpolyglot & currently certified in 18 foreign languages for interpretation, some among them more exotic, such as Norwegian, Afrikaans, etc. Since 2003, Axel has sat over 70 examinations by such international bodies as Language Testing International (LTI/ACTFL), the US Military’s DLPT (3+ score on the Interagency Language Roundtable ILR scale), Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board, ILSAT & CILISAT tests, University of Toronto and York University academic proficiency tests, etc.

As a result of this extensive experience over the last decade, Modern Languages has developed the Verbal Proficiency & Comprehension Test and Written Proficiency Test. Together, these two standard tests objectively measure the full range of verbal & written language skill. As they have been designed independently of one another, each may be taken on its own, for a more focused evaluation of either the verbal/comprehension or written language proficiency.

Modern Languages – an emerging leader in quality language services on the North American market is proud to offer the highest current standard in standardized language testing, with objective grading by seasoned professional proctors and guaranteed 48-hour turn-around time for test result delivery.
